New 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 First Ride

Instead of dumbing-down a superbike or patching together a crude naked literbike, Kawasaki builds a naked bike from scratch
Naked bikes have never sold well in the U.S. Although European brand loyalists probably beg to differ, the actual number of naked bikes sold in the U.S. is miniscule compared to other categories, and especially tiny compared to the numbers sold in Europe. But Kawasaki feels the new 2010 Z1000 is going to change all that. Instead of just warming over (read: neutering) an old literbike engine and sticking it into a hastily-designed budget chassis, Kawasaki has started completely from scratch with the latest Z, with an all-new design from the ground up: new engine, new chassis, new everything. The result is a bike that breaks the mold for naked bikes, with the type of accessible performance that’s always been missing from the previous naked bike offerings from Japan. Check out just how different the new
Z1000 is on Sport Rider editor-in-chief Kent Kunitsugu’s latest blog.
